From registration to collection, here’s how buying a vehicle through GT Auction works.
Buying a vehicle through GT Auction is simple. Follow these steps to get started.
Create your GT Auction account and submit your required verification documents.
Pay your R5,000 refundable bidder deposit. Once your documents and deposit have been verified, your account will be approved for bidding.
Browse current auctions, review vehicle details and photos, and inspect the vehicle where inspection is available.
Bid online from your approved account. Keep an eye on the auction closing time and your current bid status.
If you're the successful bidder, you'll receive an invoice showing the purchase price, applicable fees and payment deadline.
Once payment and documentation have been verified, you'll receive your Release Note and can arrange collection.
Take a few important steps before placing your bid.
Salvage vehicles may be damaged, incomplete, non-running or not roadworthy. Review the photos, description and available documentation carefully. Where viewing is available, we recommend you inspect the vehicle in person.
Your winning bid may not be the final amount payable. Check the applicable buyer’s premium, administration fees, document fees, VAT and any lot-specific charges before bidding.
Decide what you’re prepared to pay before the bidding starts getting competitive. Set a budget and stick to it.
Take a few important steps before placing your bid.
Your R5,000 bidder deposit is refundable security linked to your approved bidder account. It is not a participation fee.
You don’t need to pay another R5,000 every time you bid. Your deposit can remain on your account while you continue using GT Auction.

Use the same deposit for multiple auctions.
The deposit is not a fee to simply take part in an auction.
You may request a refund if you have no outstanding purchase or amount owing to GT Auction.
If you’re the successful bidder, here’s what happens next.
You’ll be notified that you’re the successful bidder.
You’ll receive an invoice showing the purchase price, applicable fees and payment deadline.
Make payment by the deadline. Once cleared, your documents will be processed.
Once payment and documentation have been verified, you’ll receive your Release Note.
Arrange collection within the timeframe specified in your invoice and the Terms & Conditions.
Many vehicles sold through GT Auction are accident-damaged, recovered, incomplete, non-running or otherwise require repair.
Where viewing is available, take advantage of it.
A vehicle that starts or moves is not necessarily safe or legally roadworthy.
Damaged or non-roadworthy vehicles may need to be transported or towed from the premises.
